Today's March 19, 2006, issue of the Santa Maria Times contains more anti-County Split sentiment. Joan Leon has a commentary titled Split a bad idea, for many reasons, while Don Ward chimes in with his letter to the editor -- County split a bad deal.
I was online tonight looking for more info about the serious problems with the Santa Maria river levee, and found this blog.
We have an unsafe levee that needs funding immediately for a study and then a lot more funding for repair. It seems there is no money for these things and our mayor, along with the mayor of Guadalupe, has had to go to Washington DC to beg for funds?
It seems really incongruous that this would be happening at the same time as a proposal to create a bankrupt county with us in it. Perhaps I need more education on the issue, but from where I sit right now, trying to find out about flood insurance, it makes no sense to me!
