The Sunday, October 22, 2006, issue of the Santa Maria Times held an interesting opinion piece from the editorial staff.
For the first time in all the years the Tin Soldier has lived in Santa Maria, the encumbent Santa Maria City Council members were not endorsed for the November 7th election.
The paper spoke about how well-qualified all candidates were to serve as city council members.
The unendorsement stated, "We would not be at all disappointed to see (Marty) Mariscal and (Alice) Patino returned to office, but we also believe voters and the city would be well-served if (Hilda) Zacarias or (Joan) Leon are elected."
How interesting it is to read between the lines.
