TORU MIYOSHI: Marty Mariscal Grandstanding for City Council Seat

Looks like the citizens voted former Santa Maria City Councilmember Marty Mariscal off the council last year, but he can't resist hanging around and giving his $.02. 

Seems former Santa Maria City Councilmember and former County of Santa Barbara Supervisor Toru Miyoshi was at a recent city council meeting to again represent the local citizens in demanding that the city refund the money it collected from all of us as we took our trash to the dump over the past few years. 

Miyoshi feels that if the city's going to receive money from Chevron to accept the diluent-contaminated dirt from Guadalupe to cap the landfill, the citizens should be reimbursed for the funds the city collected from them for this purpose.

Makes sense to the Tin Soldier. 

The issue of a refund is material for another post.  What's important here is that former City Councilmember Marty Mariscal felt it necessary that he should stand up at the city council meeting and attempt to refute Miyoshi's demands, implying that he was giving the public misinformation.

Did the city council ask Marty Mariscal to do this?  Has Marty Mariscal now appointed himself the Official Spokesperson for the city council?

Miyoshi succinctly responds in his April 3, 2007, letter to the editor in the Santa Maria Times, "I will not be a candidate for City Council in the next election.  What are Marty's political plans?"

(September 30, 2010:  When re-linking Miyoshi's letter, a letter to the editor from George Dailey on the same subject was discovered.  Mr. Dailey says, 'Marty Mariscal should remember he's no longer a councilman and has no more rights or privileges than those granted to average citizens.")

I recently became aware of this site and appreciate all the effort given to "watchdogging" our local governing bodies. When chastizing citizens for their apathy re: chief practicing racism, I think it's more a case of ignorance, especially if one has to search for an independent paper to learn about it.
